What is the difference between a cordless and an electric grinder?

An angle grinder is a handheld power tool that can be used for a variety of metal fabrication jobs that include cutting, grinding, deburring, finishing, and polishing. They are an extremely versatile tool that could be right for you. The most common types of angle grinder tools are powered by electricity; either corded or battery-powered.

What is a Cordless Grinder?

Our cordless grinders are found in a variety of sizes. The different sizes make them fit your almost every need. They can cut and grind both stone and metal depending on the wheel that is fitted, an aspect that is changed and swapped when required.

The main draw of a cordless grinder is they are easy to use in terms of freedom and mobility. The rechargeable battery packs mean they do not need to be attached to a power source and therefore are effective for those who feel they need to move around all areas of their project.

If you have a smaller-sized project then a cordless grinder is ideal for you – as they have up to 30 mins of use (depending on disc type, model, and application – see our expansive collection on site).

Powered by interchangeable and rechargeable batteries, cordless grinders mostly come in 115 and 125mm sizes, with maximum speeds of up to 9,000 rpm (rpm meaning revolutions per minute – basically just how fast it spins!)

What is an Electric Grinder?

An electric angle grinder is a hand-operated tool that is powered by electricity and is used with several attachments for grinding, cutting, and polishing. Angle grinders are widely used in metalworking and construction, as well as in emergency rescues.

The electric grinder has an RPM of 15000 allowing for the job you want to be completed quicker than the cordless, however, you do have the hassle of being more alert due to the potential tripping hazard.

What is the Difference Between Electric and Cordless?

As briefly looked into above, the obvious main difference between a cordless and an electric grinder is their ability for mobility and freedom. The other main aspect to consider in their differences is the amount of time that you will require the grinder for. Due to it being powered by a battery pack, the cordless grinder works for up to 30 mins at a time. This is different from the corded electric grinder which can be used for as long as you require, as long as it is plugged into a power source.

If you’re using a grinder for long periods at a time, cordless machines probably aren’t the right choice for you. If, however, you’re working in remote areas, multiple sites, or just have a quick job to do; a cordless machine will offer you both freedom and practicality.
